timisoara_24_05_2008_31Romania is a country that has a lot to offer: from its incredible mountains to it’s amazing waters, from its delicious food to its welcoming people, from traditional villages to modern cities. One of these cities is Timisoara, the second largest city in Romania by population after Bucharest. By January 1st 2009, the population was 311.586 inhabitants. Its people are both traditional and modern alike, both young and old, joyous and grumpy. People of all kinds that live together to make a dot that keeps on growing on the map of Romania.

Timisoara is known for a lot of things like its numerous parks and stunning churches (take the Metropolitan Cathedral for example). There is history here as well; in fact it’s the city where the 1989 revolution started which led to Romania’s freedom from the yoke of communism. There are lesser known qualities as well, smaller things, apparently insignificant, such as promenades trough the numerous  parks and by the river Bega’s shores at sunset. There are vibrant gatherings in Unirii Square each evening and on the small benches near the Catholic Dome. There are outdoor shows held in the Rose Park on summer nights. Shopping for little nothings (toys, bags, food, sweets, handmade things) out of improvised booths in the Center, all specially made for different occasions.

Yes, all of these things can be found in any major city, but every town is unique in its own way because the people are unique and they are what makes any place, be it small or large, that special something that is their very own, and that can’t be seen anywhere else. Timisoara is big enough to have cultural and shopping centers, but it’s not so big to be overcrowded. It has just enough to meet any person’s need.

This is why it is considered to be the perfect location to spend a few weeks visiting or to start living a new life. Timisoara is the city for everyone’s taste!
