Magiun de pruneLike other jams, plum jam is made from whole crushed or cut fruit. The only part of a plum not used in jam is the pit. Depending on the taste of the cook, the plums may be pitted and cooked whole, or they may be pitted and crushed or cut

Plum jam is an Romanian traditional jam, is a recipe made by all the grandmothers and is delicious. The plum jam is my favorite because it has a taste of sour-sweet, it’s yummy and can be ate in many ways.

First of all here is the recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 4 lbs (1.8 kg) plums
  • 1 pint (575 ml) water
  • 4 lbs (1.8 kg) sugar

Method:

  1. Wash and wipe the plums. Cut in halves.
  2. Put into a pan with the water and simmer gently until the fruit is soft.
  3. Test for pectin.
  4. Add the sugar, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
  5. Bring to the boil and boil rapidly until the jam sets when tested, removing the stones as they rise to the top.
  6. Remove the scum.
  7. Pot and seal while still hot.

Well the theory is that, but when you’ll do it you’ll congratulate yourself.

You will see also, that not only the taste of the jam will conquer your heat,  is the smell of the plums that will be all over you house.

Tips : you can ate the plum jam simple, with bread and butter, with rice milk, with pap, pancakes and also can be used in cookies.

Bon appetite!!!

P.s.: if you like it, you can also add pieces of roasted wholenuts in you jam, it will taste better.
